Art Advisory Services

A key benefit of choosing to work with an independent art advisor is the promise of their objectivity in their advice and counsel. I am independent of any ties to artists, dealers, galleries and auction houses, and I do not sell art. My independence ensures that your interests will always come first.

Corporate Art Consulting

Fine art enhances and humanizes the workspace through its intrinsic and aesthetic qualities. It reflects your company's personality and projects an image of success, and it contributes to an appealing and productive environment for your employees. Even a small corporate art collection, installed in reception and meeting areas, will reflect the culture and vision of your company, lending your business a feeling of success and permanence. I have the expertise to assist you with the selection, placement and installation of an art collection customized to your business situation.

Residential Art Consulting

Fine art can enhance your décor and transform the aesthetics of your home. It has the power to inspire and enrich your life. I can help you with the selection of an entire collection, or in choosing the right piece for that special space.

The Process

  • Working closely with a new collector, I consider the client's interests, collecting objectives, aesthetic preferences, budget, and timeframe.

  • When developing an existing art collection I draw on years of experience and training, long-term relationships, and industry knowledge to review the artworks in the collection, and the collection as a whole, and make strategic recommendations on expanding and exploring new collecting directions. A review of an existing collection may include appraisals and brokerage of selected pieces for resale, and recommendations for conservation and re-framing.

  • I survey floor plans and offer recommendations for art allocations. I evaluate spaces appropriate for the placement of art in terms of physical dimensions, use of the space, design and safety considerations. I consult with architects to assess the space, traffic flow, finishes and materials.

  • I prepare budgets for approval (cost of the artwork, consultation fees, framing, installation, shipping, framing, photography, documentation, label-copy, etc.).

  • I create selections of recommended artworks for my client's approval. I present my recommendations to my clients using images, or a combination of images and actual artworks. I select artworks based on originality, quality of execution, the artist's record within their chosen field, etc.

  • Before recommending a purchase I evaluate the condition of the artwork.

  • I conduct research on the artist and consider all relevant art historical factors. If the work is historical I can research art historical documentation and provide a written analysis of the art historical context and the placement of the work in the artist's oeuvre.

  • I evaluate the current market conditions and perform all necessary price research before recommending an artwork.

  • Collecting art is not just an aesthetic endeavour, it can also be another form of asset allocation, and I can address the artwork's potential for investment value over time.

  • Once I have obtained the client's approval I acquire the artwork. I negotiate with galleries and advise on the bidding process at auction. I tap into an extensive network of dealers - provincial, regional, and national galleries, unaffiliated artists' studios, and fine art auctions to select and purchase fine art.

  • I will research a selection of artists for creating site-specific artworks. I will design and manage all stages of a commission through to the installation of the artwork. Please see the section on this website titled Commissions.

  • I work with the finest framers to have your artwork framed in archival-quality materials, and professional technicians to install your new art according to contemporary museum practices. I arrange delivery, administer paperwork, and take care of special needs. Please see the sections on this website titled Installations and Coordination of Specialty Items.
