Pauline Lindland has been writing art appraisals in Calgary for the past ten years and has an established reputation as a knowledgeable and respected art advisor and personal property appraiser with a specialty in fine art. She has taken formal education and passed examinations in appraisal theory, principles, procedures, ethics, and law to become an Accredited Member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA), the professional leader in standardized appraisal methodology and report writing standards. Pauline conducts appraisals for purposes of insurance, charitable contributions, equitable distributions (estates, marriage dissolutions, bankruptcies), investments, legal proceedings, loan collateral, and informed decision-making. She writes valuations of assets on behalf of private and corporate art collectors, public art galleries and museums, art dealers, insurance companies, judges, lawyers, the moving industry, bankers and lending institutions, estate and trust officers, accountants, financial planners, bankruptcy trustees and various provincial and federal government agencies and foundations.
Pauline is a long-standing member of the arts community and has been involved in the arts since an early age. She studied painting and art history and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Post graduation Pauline earned a certificate in Arts Management from the Banff School of Fine Arts. She worked for more than a year at the Glenbow Museum and received training in the care, handling and management of fine art. For the following sixteen years Pauline was the Curator of the Petro-Canada Art Programme. She managed a national collection that under her guidance came to be recognized as one of Canada's finest corporate art collections. She was concurrently the Director of Petro-Canada's public art gallery in Calgary, responsible for all operational aspects. The gallery displayed vibrant and notable exhibitions throughout its history, and received positive media attention. Her focus at Petro-Canada was national in scope and because Petro-Canada was a Crown Corporation of the federal government, she had the benefit and challenge of a collaboration with the National Museums Program.
Pauline has written articles for Canadian Art, Western Living, the Alberta Museums Association, the Canadian Museums Association, and various exhibition catalogues. As an expert in corporate art collecting, she has addressed visiting groups and international dignitaries, the Canadian Artists' Representation, the visual artists' union in Winnipeg, the Board of Directors of the Canada Council, and she has presented gallery talks. Pauline curated an exhibition for the 1988 Olympic Arts Festival, and she wrote and published a bilingual catalogue that was given to international visitors to the Petro-Canada gallery during the Calgary Winter Olympics.
For the last ten years Pauline has operated a visual arts consultancy offering a broad range of creative and museological services to private collectors, corporations, the art gallery and museum communities, and the provincial and federal governments. Pauline is a keen follower of contemporary Canadian visual art, and she participates actively in the local visual arts scene. She sits on acquisition and award juries for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and for the City of Calgary's Public Art Program. She has coordinated sculpture competitions, juried art exhibitions and curated public art exhibitions. Pauline was honoured with an Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005 for her contribution to the arts in the province.
